Regulatory Requirements:
· Florida RN licensure required.
o RN requirement may be waived for other Licensed Clinical Professionals with three consecutive years of Risk Management Director experience at an HCA-affiliated facility
Certification in Patient Safety (CPPS) Required
If not already CPPS, must complete the following:
CPPS Examination must be taken within 90 days of hire
CPPS Certification must be achieved within 12 months from date of hire
CPHRM Required
If not already CPHRM, must complete the following:
CPHRM Examination must be taken within 90 days of hire
CPHRM Certification must be achieved within 12 months from date of hire.
Healthcare Risk Management License if required by State
Language Skills:
· Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
· Additional languages preferred.
· Strong written and verbal skills.
Education/Skills:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing , or related field required; Masters preferred
· Knowledge of regulatory codes, legal requirements and healthcare law
· 3 years experience in a position dedicated to either Patient Safety, Risk, or Qualityclinical education experience responsible for the development, implementation and delivery of clinincal education programs Required
· 3 years bedside nursing experience in acute care setting Preferred
· Previous management experience Preferred
· Effective presentation skills; articulate, persuasive, and eloquent verbal and written communicator
· Self-motivated with the ability to work independently
· Ability to manage/handle stress while under pressure
· Ability to interface with a variety of professionals including board members, medical staff, senior leadership , attorneys, etc.
· Knowledge of insurance programs
· Demonstrated skills in strategic planning, implementing and evaluating programs
Job Description:
The Patient Safety Director is responsible for facilitating the transition from a retrospective, reactive model for risk management to a prospective, proactive loss prevention, harm reducing patient safety program. Promotes a culture of safety. Directs others within the facility towards process improvements that support the elimination of medical/health care errors and other factors that contribute to unintended adverse patient outcomes. Initiates and oversees the development of a comprehensive patient safety improvement program inclusive of the analysis and trending of data. This position demonstrates a high degree of responsibility, accountability and autonomy.
