Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or a related science. Ø Registered as a medical technologist; State of Florida Laboratory Supervisor's license in required specialty(ies) -- Primary Source online verification required directly from State of Florida licensing database. Ø Excellent interpersonal and supervisory skills, including the ability to interact with all levels of personnel and management. Leadership experience; proven managerial skills; good oral and written communication skills.

Job Description:

Directs, supervises, and coordinates functions and activities and assures all are completed. Oversees and performs laboratory services to meet the needs of patients performed in accordance with accepted standards and practices. Promotes a positive work environment through team building, motivation and effective delegation. Prepares work schedules, assigns personnel, evaluates work performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions. Maintains current competencies on all team members. Provides guidance, motivation and support to Laboratory staff. Prepares written documentation as required by the profession and the department including up-to-date procedure manuals for the department. Directs documentation, establishes record system, and maintains all laboratory records, reports, statistics, logs and files. Consults with medical staff and other health care providers on matters relating to laboratory services. Directs, supervises, and coordinates technical, as well as clerical functions and activities in any or all divisions of clinical laboratories. Assures coverage in all areas, and provides backup support at all levels of operations as necessary. Performs technical duties as required. Directs training of new medical technologists/students, documenting initial training and on-going competency for all medical technologists working in the department. Reviews and submits College of American Pathologists (CAP) survey results within the specified time with written explanations and consistent accuracy. Maintains accreditation standards and is responsible for section passing all inspections. Inspects and observes personnel practices and takes appropriate action when violations occur. Provides positive feedback and recognition to Associates who are performing in an exemplary fashion. Controls laboratory costs in cooperation with the laboratory director using budget comparisons, expense and revenue information, and projected equipment needs as pertains to laboratories. Maintains positive relations with patients, medical staff, subordinates, peers, and other departments as well as clients who use laboratory services; notifies laboratory director of problems encountered in dealing with physicians, nurses, clients, or other personnel. Maintains a safe and clean departmental environment. Investigates new products, equipment, and methodologies, and recommends as appropriate. Operates, maintains, and repairs laboratory equipment in accordance with manufacturer's specifications; required records are maintained. Assures accurate and timely purchasing/requisitioning of laboratory supplies and equipment. Responsible for the prevention of service disruption related to equipment and supplies. May act as laboratory manager/section head of one or more sections and assists staff in performing unusual or difficult tests or procedures. Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, inservice meetings, and workshops. Attends meetings as required, and participates on committees as directed.
