Job Requirements:

Bachelor in Science (Microbiology, Biology, Public Health) or a minimum of an Associate degree in Nursing is required A minimum of 3 years of experience in healthcare, preferably in an acute care setting in a large complex organization Board Certification in Infection Prevention and Control. If not Board certified, attempted within 2 years of hire Efficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint and Excel is required Active California license required for Registered Nurse applicants. Active member of APIC (Association for Professionals in Infection Control and Epidemiology).

Job Description:

Evaluates the total hospital environment as it relates to infection prevention and assists in the implementation and coordination of sanitation and aseptic practices within the hospital. Collaborates with the Quality Department to evaluate infection surveillance data to ensure that outbreaks, clusters, and unusual occurrences of infection are promptly identified, investigated, and controlled. Conducts periodic rounds of all nursing units to ensure that all patients with confirmed or suspected communicable diseases or infections are appropriately isolated. Reports to the appropriate public health authorities any patient having a “reportable disease”. Prepares quarterly, or as needed, infection prevention reports for use by the Infection Prevention Committee in identifying problems, patterns and/or trends in infection prevention. Maintains a close working relationship with all hospital departments with respect to infection prevention related matters, ensuring that all appropriate controls are in place. Participates in the Employee Health Program, New Employee Orientation, and consults on infectious disease questions, problems or issues related to employee health. Assists the programs yearly evaluation of safety products and TB risk assessment.
