Job Description:

The Director of Infection Prevention & Control is responsible for the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the organization-wide Infection Control Program, as defined by the Infection Control Committee and the Infectious Disease Medical Director. He/she fosters a culture of performance improvement and coordinates the systematic implementation of best practices designed to reduce errors and improve patient outcomes. With the emphasis on improvement and publicly reported data, the Director possesses a heightened ability to provide statistical analysis of data, expert-level knowledge regarding NHSN data management, and an ability to evaluate and implement effective prevention strategies. He or she provides leadership and support to the organization in the area of infection control surveillance, detection, analysis, improvement and prevention. The Director oversees the Infection Control Program that includes education, tracking and reporting, process consultation and improvement, and building an organization-wide infection prevention culture. The incumbent designs, implements, directs, and evaluates improvement activities, setting infection control standards in accordance with national guidelines, and evaluating compliance for practices associated with prevention and control of health care-associated infections. The Director serves as the hospital's expert resource for epidemiological methods, and for existing and emerging regulations and guidelines specific to the protection of patients and staff from preventable infection events and hospital acquired infections. The incumbent works collaboratively with administration, medical staff and clinical leaders, and staff to implement proactive infection prevention practices, and insures a vigilant surveillance program to monitor for actual infections and outbreaks with the goal of improving patient and staff outcomes, quality and safety. The Director evaluates, updates and insures hospital adherence to established and newly implemented policies and procedures from recognized regulatory agencies.
