Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology (hospital based formal internship required) or in a related science from an accredited college with subsequent relevant clinical laboratory experience for a total of 6 years. Registration with ASCP or equivalent certification is highly recommended. OR 2. Master’s degree from an approved institution with a major in one of the chemical, physical or biological sciences and, subsequent to graduation, has had at least 4 years of pertinent laboratory experience. 3. Meets New York State qualifications for a Supervisor. 4. Certification as Specialist in Blood Bank preferred. 5. Must have a working knowledge in all areas of the clinical laboratory being supervised. 6. Two years experience in a Transfusion Service required. 7. Experience in a blood donor program preferred. 8. Strong Interpersonal skills. 9. Excellent written and oral communication skills. 10. Ability to critically think. As applicable, the individual has training / competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
Job Description:
The Blood Bank Supervisor assists the Director of Laboratory in achieving efficient Laboratory operation by supervising and directing the overall operation of Blood Bank. This position is responsible for maintaining regulatory requirements of the FDA and Department of Health, CAP and other regulatory bodies. Provides technical and administrative supervision, plan future section operation, assess and maintain all phases of inventory and budget control and assess the appropriateness of the testing program. This position works closely with all other Laboratory Supervisors to provide continuity of all Laboratory operations on all shifts.
